The Glass Menagerie performs February 2nd-February 18
About the Show
This is a memory play, Tom's specifically. The script is laden with theatrical devices such a breaking the fourth wall, projection, and overtly poetic themes. This production will honor that original intent and update it for a 2023 audience. The director is looking to incorporate movement, magic, and fantastical elements in the spirit of Tennessee Williams' original dreamlike nature. The characters are real and grounded, but the world they are in is all within Tom's mind. Memories corrupted by time and emotion.
The casting is not limited to the 4 actors described below. The hope is to utilize more actors to exist within the fringes of Tom's mind. The lingering presence of his father, distorted reflections of himself and his mother, glimpses of exciting adventures that lie just beyond his home.
Due to the nature of being a memory, the casting ages are purposefully wide. Tom can be revisiting these emotions at any age. He can see his mother as an old woman or as a young woman. His sister was older, but he might remember her as childlike or older than she ever was. The mind's eye is quite deceptive.

Tom sees her as a joke, a tyrant, an idealist, and a selfless mother; and she is and more.
Laura Wingfield: (Female, 18-35) Tom's older sister, a beautiful yet fragile girl who prefers to be shut away from the world. Riddled with anxiety and health complications growing up, she shares a deep connection with her brother and a deep guilt towards her mother. She knows she is the reason for the weight Tom feels pulling at him.
Jim O'Connor: (Male, 20-35) The gentleman caller and classmate of Laura's from High School. Once the popular athlete in school, Jim now works alongside Tom at the factory and finds his life looking stale and unfulfilling.
